March is Women’s History Month, commemorating the contributions of women to United States history.
“Women have long been contributing to the colorful history of the United States and of Samford, from legends of our nation’s founding, to the civil rights movement and to celebrated missionaries, women have played a significant, though often-overlooked role in turning the pages of history,” said Denise Gregory, associate provost for student success and diversity.
Samford University has benefited from impactful women since its founding in 1841. Throughout campus, buildings, artwork, programs and scholarships stand in recognition of the important contributions Samford women have made to the betterment of the university throughout its history.
In celebration of these women and of women everywhere, the Office of Student Success and Diversity plans to celebrate women’s history with several events and involvement opportunities throughout the month.

Flower to Empower
On March 1, Samford’s Office of Student Success and Diversity delivered carnations of appreciation to women across campus for their contributions to the Samford community.
Lunch and Learn | Creating Spaces: Examining Black Women in Senior Administration

Join the Office of Student Success and Diversity for a special Lunch and Learn session as we shine a spotlight on the experiences of Black women in administration at predominantly white institutions (PWIs). In celebration of Women's History Month, our event will feature insightful research, personal stories and empowering conversations.

Strength in Safety: Women's Self-Defense Workshop

Join the Office of Student Success and Diversity for an empowering workshop focused on self-defense and safety for women. Led by an experienced instructor, this event will provide practical techniques and strategies to help women feel more confident and secure in their everyday lives.

Empower Her: Alumni Success Stories & Career Center Insights
March 26, 5:30-7 p.m.
Cooney Hall 400, Regions Community Resource Room
This event will feature a panel discussion with female alumnae and questions that will highlight their work in their respective fields, the challenges they face as a woman in the field, and advice for young women entering the workforce.
